Chairlady’s Message
Firstly I would like to welcome you all to the West Sussex Caravan Club.
I am proud to be serving as Chairlady and would like to take this opportunity, firstly to thank the retiring committee, and secondly to thank this year’s committee. I have an extremely strong team behind me, made up of both returning people, bringing their experience and knowledge to share, and new members who will no doubt bring new ideas to the forefront. I would like to thank Dave Suckling for offering to continue to stand as South East Region rep and Laurie Manning who has also offered to continue as our Southern Centres rep; your dedication and help is greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank all the members who have offered me their congratulations and offers of support; I’m sure over the coming year I will need to lean on many of you for your thoughts and ideas.
We have a full and varied rally programme to entice you this year and I really hope you will all find several, if not all, rallies to interest you; I cannot extend enough thanks to all who have volunteered to run rallies, in your own time and sometimes expense; there wouldn’t be any rallies without you, so thank you. If you haven’t run a rally yet and would be interested, please feel free to have a chat with any of the committee; you can make your rally your own by doing as much or as little as possible but it really is refreshing to have new people with new ideas to share with others. If you don’t feel confident to run a rally then why not offer to co-run with someone else to find your feet?
In an attempt to promote our centre further to both members, visitors and potential ralliers, we would like to publish pictures on both our Facebook page and website; if anyone would prefer not to be included in pictures, please let myself or one of the committee know and we will ensure you are anonymised.
As some of you will know, my Dad is currently going through cancer treatment and although it has been a traumatic time for all the family, when he was receiving his radiotherapy in Brighton I was touched and warmed by the dedication and commitment of the Macmillan volunteers who went out of their way to speak to patients and make their time in the cancer centre a little easier. I appreciate fundraising for Cancer research is immensely important and should not be ignored, but I have chosen the volunteers as my charity. I am sure, if not personally, everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer, exposing them and their families to the volunteers at some point. At the time of going to print, I am in contact with the Horizon Centre manager and hope to raise funds to purchase something specific for the volunteers to benefit from and as soon as this is agreed I will share this with you all. The Horizon Centre has recently opened and was designed with input from people affected by cancer to make it the best place to offer support and services to people in Sussex. Scott and I have kicked off the fund raising with the re-introduction of a tuck shop but any other ideas would be very welcome please.
It just leaves me to say Scott and I look forward to seeing you all on the rally field in the coming year and I hope to welcome new ralliers and their families to the scene too.
Please remember, the committee and rally officers are all volunteers and they aren’t paid because they are worthless, but because they are priceless! Thanks for all your support.
